7 July 2012 – The proposed removal of certain stamp duties in New South Wales as from 1 July 2012 has been deferred until 1 July 2013. The deferral is part of the changes to NSW State taxes announced in the 2012 State Budget delivered on 12 June 2012.

Previously, it was proposed that, as from 1 July 2012, stamp duty in NSW would be abolished on:

  • mortgages;
  • transfer of business assets other than land; and
  • unlisted marketable securities.

These measures have now been postponed until 1 July 2013 in NSW. In certain other States and Territories (e.g. SA, QLD and NT), the measures have also been postponed or deferred indefinitely.
